Force Multipliers: How to Make Yourself—and Your Clients—Unstoppable

force-multiplier

The concept of a “force multiplier” originated in the military, describing tools or strategies that amplify the effectiveness of a team. Whether it’s advanced technology, superior training, or strategic positioning, the idea is simple: achieve exponentially more with the same resources.

But this isn’t just a military concept—it’s a framework for modern life and business. And it begs two important questions: What is your force multiplier? and What are you doing to make yourself—and your clients—more powerful?

The other day, I was sitting in a large boardroom at a law firm downtown. We were discussing strategies for attracting new clients and top legal talent. As the conversation unfolded, they couldn’t stop raving about one particular attorney. Interestingly, this attorney didn’t practice law. His entire role was centered around being a mega relationship-builder. They likened him to a top-level fixer in the state.

As luck would have it, he walked into the room, and we had the chance to chat. He explained his process, how he cultivated trust, built bridges, and maintained an intricate web of connections. While I was impressed, my mind couldn’t stop racing with one thought: How do I equip this guy with force multipliers? How do I make him more effective, more impactful—more deadly?

Here’s the takeaway: force multipliers don’t just apply to tools or systems. They’re about making people more powerful. It’s about asking:

  • How can I amplify my own impact?
  • What can I do to give my team or clients exponential leverage?
  • What strategies, technology, or insights will turn potential into power?

Here are a few ways to think about force multipliers in your work and relationships:

  1. Equip Your Network
Who are the connectors, rainmakers, or doers in your circle? What tools or systems could make them unstoppable? In the case of the relationship-builder I met, I thought about equipping him with advanced CRM systems, AI tools for relationship management, and strategic playbooks for outreach. The question isn’t what they’re doing—it’s how you can help them do it 10x better.
  2. Amplify Talent
How are you making yourself and your team more effective? Whether it’s new skills, better frameworks, or tools that unlock creativity, investing in yourself and others creates ripple effects. Your power grows when your talent grows.
  3. Solve at Scale
Look for solutions that don’t just solve today’s problem but create frameworks for solving future challenges. Whether it’s automating a process or creating systems that thrive on network effects, think long-term.

Force multipliers are everywhere—waiting to be discovered, unlocked, and wielded. They turn individuals into innovators, teams into movements, and businesses into empires.

So, the next time you walk into a room, don’t just think about what’s working. Ask yourself:
What can I do to make this person, this team, or this system more powerful?

Because in a world full of competition, the most dangerous advantage isn’t just raw talent—it’s leverage.
