The Secret to an Effortless Thanksgiving (and Business Success)
Yesterday, we celebrated Thanksgiving at my in-laws’—an annual tradition that always brings back memories of my first dinner with them. Spoiler: it wasn’t my finest moment.
Let me take you back 24 years ago. I was just 20, dating Angel, and meeting her huge family for the first time. Her dad, an evangelist, had gathered everyone at a local community center in Kenwood, a rural Native American community.
After dinner, we returned to their house, and my friends decided to ride four-wheelers in a field nearby. One of them got stuck, and I went down to help. We couldn’t figure it out, so I hopped on another four-wheeler to head back to the house for assistance.
That’s when things went south.
I took a trail that required climbing a steep incline. Naturally, I pulled back on the handles, trying to gain traction—but instead, the four-wheeler rolled backward and flipped onto me.
Here’s the kicker: it was Angel’s dad’s four-wheeler. And it had a gun rack.
When it flipped, the gun rack hit me square in the eye. Bleeding and dazed, I stumbled into a house full of strangers clutching my face. Talk about a first impression!
But here’s the beautiful thing about family: they welcomed me anyway.
Every Thanksgiving, I reflect on that story—not because anyone else brings it up, but because it reminds me how grateful I am to spend the holiday with this amazing family. And this year, I hoped to create a better memory.
A Smokin’ Thanksgiving Tradition
During the pandemic, I dove headfirst into the world of BBQ. I became a certified judge with KCBS and traveled the country, tasting the best (and worst) BBQ out there. Along the way, I picked up world-class tips on using a smoker to create unforgettable meals.
This year, I smoked turkey breasts for our Thanksgiving feast.
Here’s my recipe:
- Dry-brined the turkey with a savory rub.
- Injected it with honey-flavored bird booster.
- Let it sit overnight.
- Used competition-style pellets in my high-tech smoker.
- Spritzed it with duck fat
- Added a layer of honey rub 30 minutes in.
Ninety minutes later, I had the best-looking turkey breasts I’d ever made. The whole time it cooked, I sat inside and monitored it on my phone.
At dinner, I watched as my family devoured it. The turkey was a hit, and while they’ve long forgotten my four-wheeler fiasco, I couldn’t help but hope this smoked turkey left a more memorable impression.
From Smoking Turkey to Automating Success
While making that turkey, I realized how much it parallels what we’re doing at Ventin Media with our new marketing automation platform.
Here’s the thing: traditional turkey cooking (or marketing) takes a lot of time and effort. You constantly monitor it, baste it, and hope it turns out right. But with the right tools—like my smoker—you can simplify the process and deliver incredible results.
Our new platform does the same for businesses. It automates repetitive tasks, enhances customer interactions, and frees up your time for what really matters—serving your customers in ways you never imagined.
And just like my smoker, it’s simple. With a mobile app, you can monitor and adjust everything from anywhere.
Some might call it “cheating.” But my family didn’t care how I cooked that turkey—they only cared about how it tasted. Similarly, your customers care about the experience and value you deliver, not how you get there.
If you’re ready to turn up the heat on your business with automation, let’s chat. I’d love to help you find the right recipe for success.
