What Does It Take To Get Your Business Online?

Every business needs a website.  Want to start a new business? The first test is whether or not you can have the discipline to get your website up. Your website is the equivalent of putting your shingle out there and telling the world that you are open for business. Why? Because we have access to a bigger world out there. We can literally do business with any of the billions of people who have access to the Internet.

Building a website is easy…if you know what you’re doing. A lot of business owners think they can go cheap by hiring young kids to do their websites for them. Here’s a news flash – not all kids know how to build websites. (Trust me, I tried to get my kid to build websites for me and it just isn’t happening) They may be willing to try but that doesn’t mean they are good at building a website.  Let’s say you can get a website built. You decide to either do it yourself or pay some struggling newcomer to the industry. You will get what you pay for.

You see, there are a lot of things to consider when building a website for your business or organization that takes years of experience to realize. On top of that, technology changes every week. Literally! Every single week, something changes or gets updated.  You have to stay on top of that.

Okay, so you want to just build a website and not worry about dealing with a professional yet.  That’s fine. That’s why I decided to create this series on getting started. Over the next few days, I am going to write about what it really takes to get your website up to snuff. I’m doing this while getting my own websites up and running. Sometimes, when I build websites I tend to do it on autopilot without realizing all of the things I am doing to get it set up the right way.

Every website is different. There are a lot of variables. But there is a base set of principles that I follow with every build.
